WELCOME

Wick and Abson Parish Council works to serve the needs of the local community.

The Parish Council meets at Wick Village Hall at 7.15pm on the second Thursday of each month except in August. Additional, extraordinary meetings are not unusual.

Everyone is welcome at these meetings, has an opportunity to speak, and your Councillors encourage you to attend to discover what they are responsible for and what they do.

Funded by the precept raised as part of your council tax, the parish council takes
responsibility for a range of local matters and makes decisions about issues that affect the local community. The most common are planning matters (the council is statutory consultee), crime prevention, bus shelters, managing the village hall, sports ground, play areas and Brockwell Park and campaigning for better facilities.

Councillors have an opportunity to make a real difference to their community at a small cost in time and effort. On their own, parish councils have limited powers to make decisions but they do have the ability to negotiate with, and the power to influence, other organisations that do make the final decisions.
